The percussion division of the Elizabethton High School Band won first place in Saturday’s competition.

Senior Katie Pless earned first in the division’s Best Drum Major caption for the band’s initial competition of the fall marching season. Betsy, competing against bands from Abingdon, Carter, Volunteer and Sullivan South, was also honored with first-place accolades in Best Music, Best Visual, Best General Effect and Best Percussion. Betsy’s Color Guard earned second-place honors.

Betsy, under the direction of Perry Elliott and Chris Lockhart, opened the walk onto the field with the band’s trademark words, “It’s show time!” As the 133 students paraded across the Vikings’ field, Senior Color Guard member Vanessa Nanney roamed about the turf carrying a white dove to kick off “Wright to the Moon.”
