Ceremony honors POWs, MIAs

Soldiers from Carter County who were held as prisoners of war or who remain missing in action were recognized Friday during a ceremony at the Elizabethton Veterans War Memorial in honor of National POW/MIA Recognition Day.

Rolling Thunder Tennessee Chapter Four hosted the ceremony. The event included a reading of the names of ex- POWs from Carter County and the names of those still MIA.

Bill Hampton, who served three tours of duty during the Vietnam War, was the guest speaker. He worked as Tennessee Highway Patrol officer after leaving the military and is the founder of the local Rolling Thunder chapter.
