East River Park

Minister Barry Pettit will continue the sermon series “Kaleo” during the morning worship service Sunday at East River Park Christian Church. His topic Sunday will be “Called to Generosity.” The service will begin at 10:45 a.m.

Upcoming sixth graders in the Children’s Ministry will present “God Is Not Dead” in sign language.

Sunday School will begin at 9:45 a.m. The Men’s Class will meet in the Little Lambs Day Care Center.

Following the worship service, the youth workers will have lunch and a meeting.

Wednesday night services will begin at 7 o’clock with three adult Bible study classes and classes for children in the nursery through the fifth grade. Classes are also available for youth groups.

The Spanish Ministry will have their services at the same times on Sunday and Wednesday.

Memorial Presbyterian

The theme for the sermon at Sunday morning worship at Memorial Presbyterian Church (PCA) will be “The Word of God Increases.” The scripture text is Acts 12: 1-25.

A nursery, Children’s Small Talk and Kidz Praize Time are provided during the morning service. A monthly fellowship lunch will follow the morning worship service at 10:45 a.m.

Hunter First Baptist

Hunter First Baptist Church is hosting the annual “Reach 2012” community missions-outreach evening August 2-5. The event involves several churches, including both youth and adults, who go out to do community service projects and evangelism outreach.

Activities will begin at 8 p.m. Thursday and continue through noon on Sunday. Youth will be under the supervision of adult leaders. They will perform free community service projects at homes, schools and churches, building relationships within the community and with each other. Evangelism, Bible discipleship and worship will be an important focus each day.

Registration will be held Thursday between 8 and 9 p.m. in the Christian Life Center. Interested students and adults are invited to attend. A registration fee of $45 per person is due at registration and includes all meals, study materials and a REACH T-shirt. Worship and praise will be held each evening featuring youth guest speaker, Brian Jennings, and worship leaders, The Justin Tenseniar Band.

Charity Hill FWB

Homecoming will be held at Charity Hill Free Will Baptist Church on Sunday, July 29.

The Evangelaires will sing at 10 a.m.

Rev. Roger Massey from Weaverville, N.C., will preach for the 11 a.m. service.

Upper Gap Creek FWB

Youth Sunday will be observed Sunday, July 29, at Upper Gap Creek Free Will Baptist Church. The youth will preside over the Sunday School at 10 a.m. and teach the classes.

Russell Bennett of Kingsport will be special guest singer at the 11 a.m. worship service. Following the conclusion of the morning service, lunch will be served in the fellowship hall.

There will be no evening service.

First Christian

Sunday morning worship at First Christian Church begins at 9:45 a.m. This Sunday, Minister Brent Nidiffer will continue with his message series, “Useless to Useful,” based on the New Testament book of Philemon. Sunday’s message will be titled “Useful Prayers.” Ardith Sheffield will present special music.

It is also Pantry Sunday at First Christian, and contributions to the church pantry are welcome.

At noon the youth committee will meet in the fellowship hall for lunch and a planning meeting.

There will be no evening service or classes. The congregation is invited to participate in the Carter County Christian Church’s Singspiration, which will be held at Lower Shell Creek Christian Church in Roan Mountain at 6 p.m.

Tuesday morning prayer will be held at 10 a.m. in the sanctuary. The prayer time consists of meditation, scripture, singing and prayer as the needs of the congregation, community, nation and the world are lifted in prayer.

Wednesday at 7 p.m., Paul Knapp will lead the Adult Bible Study in the Men’s Classroom. All other age groups will meet in their respective classrooms. The Grace Circle will meet in the Winsome Classroom for their monthly meeting.

Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m., the Sunrise Circle will meet at the home of Virginia Laws with Virginia Wakeford as hostess. At 2 p.m. the Volunteer Circle will meet in the Fidelis Classroom at the church. The Ann Jett Circle will meet at 7 p.m. in the church parlor while the Esther Circle will meet in the fellowship hall.

The Men’s Breakfast will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday in the fellowship hall with a donation of $3 each.

Watauga Valley FWB

Watauga Valley Freewill Baptist Church will hold a Mexican Fiesta, starting at 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 29. A meal will be served at 6 p.m. Attendees are welcome to bring their favorite dish to share.

The event is an annual back-to-school celebration for the youth of the church and will be held in the fellowship hall.

The church will also host Youth Sunday on July 29.

Valley Forge Christian

Vacation Bible School will be held at Valley Forge Christian Church July 29 through Aug. 3 with classes daily from 6 to 9:30 p.m.

The VBS theme is “Praise: Where Kids Get Down and Lift God High.” Classes will be offered for all children, age three through high school.

Union Baptist

Union Baptist Church, 1411 Highway 321, Hampton, will have its Fifth Sunday Night Song Service on July 29. The song service will begin at 7 p.m. with “The Gospel Two” in charge of the service.

Pastor Danny Bright invites all to attend and hear the Word of God through music.

The church will hold a youth rally, “Jesus Walks Our Hallways,” at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4.

This back-to-school rally will be open to all area youth. Organizers are hoping the rally can provide the most important back-to-school tool — Jesus!

The event will feature a variety of skits, songs and other performances. The message will be brought by David Finney, who is a student and athlete from Hampton High School. Everyone attending will be given a free hotdog supper.

Organizers explain that the reason behind the rally is simple. They feel that as long as teens bring Jesus to school, the government cannot keep Him out.

Rally organizers note that the event would be ideal for all youth groups, small, medium or large, to get together, worship and shout the name of Jesus from the hills.The church is located at 1411 Highway 321, Hampton.

 

Elk River Baptist

Homecoming will be held Sunday, July 29, at Elk River Baptist Church, with services beginning at 10 a.m. Special music will be presented by Fredia Wagner and Greta Odom.

There will be classes for all ages. Pre-registration will be held on Saturday, July 28, from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

VBS activities include Bible lessons, crafts, music, snacks, recreation and much more.

Parents and children are invited to attend the final day of classes on Aug. 4 at 10 a.m. to see some of the fun highlights of the week, tour the classrooms and enjoy a snack.

Bethlehem Lutheran

“This is the Sign” will be the theme of the message at worship services Sunday morning, July 29, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Johnson City. The sermon text is Genesis 9: 8-17. Morning worship will be held at 8 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Holy Communion will be served at both services.
