The Carter County Jail features a large medical wing, where prisoners are provided general health care. Many regular tests can be completed in the facility, including blood pressure.

The five organizations, Franchesca Shoun and Dr. Robert Uhren; Southern Health Partners; Correct Health; Correctional Healthcare; and Advanced Correctional Healthcare, are expected to make presentations to Carter County commissioners. Each of the presenters has submitted bids to become the next health care provider at the Carter County Jail.

For the past couple of months, county officials have scrambled to find a physician for the jail, after Dr. Daniel Paul declined to renew his contract. Paul’s contract ended on Oct. 1.

“I’m getting old and tired,” Paul told the STAR.

The doctor had been with the facility for four years. His staff also provides medical services for the Sullivan County Jail.
