Roan Mountain Lodge No. 566 F&AM will hold its annual Community Picnic behind the Roan Mountain Post Office. Food will be served from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is open to everyone.
A family reunion for descendants of Alex and Susie Knight will be held at Zion Baptist Church Fellowship Hall on Gap Creek Road. Those attending are asked to meet at 11 a.m. and to plan to eat at noon sharp. All families are asked to bring covered dishes, dessert, bread and drinks to share as well as family photos, stories and other mementos. All other supplies will be furnished. The annual family reunion for descendants of Robert Montgomery and Rosa Hicks Montgomery will be held at the Hampton Christian Church Fellowship Hall at 11 a.m. Lunch will be served. A Sequoyah School Reunion is planned to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the school’s opening in 1972. The reunion will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Elizabethton to commemorate the opening of the school in 1972. The students who attended Sequoyah School came from nine school systems in Upper East Tennessee and North Carolina to receive academic and vocational training as well as physical therapy and speech and hearing services. Parents, students and staff members are urged to call Judy Turnmire Haley at 543-6828 or email Leslie Webb Gannaway at email@example.com. They are compiling a contact list to keep everyone informed of plans for the reunion.
