Community Christmas tree’s new lights will be installed today

The Fraser fir tree will be wearing its new lights today after a community-wide fundraising effort to buy bulbs and wiring for the community Christmas tree.

The fundraising effort was led by the Carter County University of Tennessee Extension Office and the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce.

Chamber Events and Marketing Coordinator Stephanie McKinney told the Chamber Board of Directors the new lights would be installed on the tree at 10 a.m. today. She said around 2,000 bulbs will replaced on the Fraser fir.

Kim Eggers, office manager at the Workforce Development Complex, said the funding for the new lights was still a little less than where it needed to be. She said the fundraising campaign had brought in $2,600 of the $3,200 cost.
