Hampton High School Band members Allie Arrington, Alacc Hogan and Jasmine Connor model the uniforms the band is working to replace. The Hampton Band Boosters will be hosting a fall fundraiser on Saturday to raise money for new uniforms.

The fundraiser, sponsored by the Hampton Band Boosters, will be held from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Tickets are $3. Activities are planned throughout the day, and proceeds will go toward the purchase of new uniforms for the band members.

Band Director Joey Cole said the band has been in need of new uniforms for a while. Band members have been wearing the same uniforms for most of the life of the band, and over the years, the uniforms have started to show their age.

Cole said the new uniforms will cost $26,000. The band, which has around 30 members in the seventh through 12th grades, has held multiple fundraisers, but still has a portion to raise.

“We still have a little more to go,” Cole said. “The goal for the day is around $2,000.”

The fundraiser will feature a yard sale and a petting zoo throughout the event. Event organizer Jennifer Campbell said the band boosters will accept donations for the yard sale from 7 a.m.-10 a.m.

At noon, there will be a dachshund race. Entries are $5 per dog and prizes will be given to winners. Campbell said she thought of the idea of having a dachshund race after attending the Octoberfest in Kingsport, which also featured a dachshund race.

“It was hilarious,” Campbell said. “There were around 300 people watching the race. I thought it would be a good way for the band to raise money. It is different, and I’m sure the band members are burnt out on car washes and bake sales.”

Another event that is being held at the fundraiser is a greased pig contest at 2 p.m. The contest has a $5 entry fee. The winner will receive a $20 Walmart gift card.

The band will perform a concert at 3 p.m. Cole said the band would be performing its halftime show along with other selections.

Other activities will include a sack race, a three-legged race and more. For more information or to donatea items for the yard sale, call Campbell at 557-2435.
