Harry Head Jr.

A Carter County Jail prisoner faces vandalism charges after corrections officers say he broke a sprinkler head on Thursday night, resulting in water damage in a section of the new jail.

Harry Truman Head Jr., 41, was served Friday afternoon with a felony vandalism warrant. Corrections officers say Head wrapped a shirt around the sprinkler head and broke it off.

Capt. Tom Smith, the jail’s administrator, said Head was in his cell in the D-Block when he allegedly broke the sprinkler. About 500 gallons of water streamed out of the broken sprinkler, flooding the cell and cell block, before staff and the Elizabethton Fire Department were able to turn off the water.

By the time the water was cut off, staff members said there was about two to three inches of standing water in the affected area.
