Davis Recycling had a trackhoe at the Carter County Jail on Wednesday to tear down the pods.

Davis Recycling has been on the property for several weeks preparing to remove the modular units, which were installed eight years ago at a cost of more than $1 million. Crews began actual demolition of the pods, facing East Elk Avenue and U.S. Highway 19E, on Wednesday. By Thursday, crews had torn down and removed a large section of at least one of the pods using two heavy trackhoes. A dump truck is being used to haul off the materials.
