Emilee Nidiffer volunteered to have her hair braided by students working for a hair salon financed through a microfinance loan. The braiding process took eight hours over two days. Her new look won rave reviews with some of the younger Kenyans she met during her stay in Nairobi.

Emilee Nidiffer spent her summer helping to make a “big dent” in poverty in the African nation of Kenya while taking part in a special mission trip.

Nidiffer spent June and July working in Nairobi, Kenya, to help people improve their own lives with the help of a relatively new type of assistance known as microfinance. She was away from home from May 31 to Aug. 4.
