Limb from historic sycamore tree now on display at courthouse10:19 am | August 31, 2012
A small piece of Elizabethton’s history has been preserved and will be on display at the Carter County Courthouse for future generations to see and read about, thanks to a handful of citizens who enjoy old things.
Thursday in a small ceremony at the courthouse, Junior Stanley presented to Mayor Leon Humphrey a small piece of a limb from the historic sycamore tree, which stood on Riverside Drive near the Covered Bridge. The mayor said the piece of wood, which has been debarked and polished, will be displayed in a glass-enclosed case on the bottom floor of the courthouse. Another small piece from the same limb was given to the Elizabethton-Carter County Public Library for its archives.
