Youth Leadership tackles team building skills during trip to Doe River Gorge

Carter County high school students took to the trees at Doe River Gorge Wednesday afternoon to learn team building and communication skills as part of the Carter County Youth Leadership Class.

The Carter County Youth Leadership Class has 28 students from the county’s five high schools. Participants this year are Mason Carnett, Alex Heaton, Victoria Hughes, Jesica Miller and Marisa Taylor from Cloudland High; Caleb Bailey, Ashley Bass, Eric Carter, Elizabeth Cochran, Sydney Elliott, Dustin Heaton, Shannon Hyder, Catherine LaPorte and Shalom Swanson from Elizabethton High;
Miranda Anderson, Cameron Crain, Michael Kelly, Michaela Matheson and Colton Wiltshire from Hampton High; Brianna Agan and Michael Nave from Unaka High and Matthew Albritton, Kaitlin Campbell, Kasey Hawkins, Caitie Nickles, Caleb Perhne, Trey Perkins and Kristen Wiggins from Happy Valley High.

Twenty-eight high school juniors are enrolled in the 2012-2013 Carter County Youth Leadership Class from Cloudland, Elizabethton, Hampton Unaka and Happy Valley high schools.

The Youth Leadership program is provided through a partnership with the Elizabethton/Carter County Chamber of Commerce and Milligan College. The group meets one day each month from August to May and participates in hands-on leadership development activities. Their classes cover topics including local government, economic development, history and heritage, health care, communication, leadership styles, tourism, agriculture, financial preparedness and state government.
